Playing with color

I've been doing a few commissions that needed to be done by Christmas, but I did play around with little ACEOs in my free time.

These are both titled "Down the River." I painted them with India ink and watercolor, and despite the decorative inking they're really about playing with color.

Children

I'm working on a few drawings featuring kids right now, this is one of them. :)
Children should, in theory, be easy for me to draw; after all, I make everything extra-cute without trying. They don't stand or hold themselves like adults though and sometimes that's hard to capture.

Dragon in progress -

I inked this one with a paintbrush, which allows for more free-flowing lines than a pen does. I almost always use wet India ink, as opposed to a marker, preferably Speedball. This technique requires a lot of focus and breath-holding so I can get the smooth lines and little details. Yet there's something relaxing about it.

Before I ink, I draw all of the lines, details and hatching in light pencil so there's no room for error. I usually put on a movie or TV show that I've seen a billion times before so I have the noise but I don't have to pay attention to it. Big Fish and Finding Nemo are my favorites.

Christmas cards

I love simple silhouetted images like this, so when I started designing special cards for Christmas this year it seemed like the natural way to go. The style is traditional, and modern at the same time. :)

These are available on my Etsy.
